On July 4th Marc Carlos of Marc Carlos Law, ACP was quoted by UT San Diego in the South Bay case. All 18 defendants pleaded guilty, but some still see politics in corruption case. In this case, 18 officials and contractors over three school districts were charged in the South County San Diego.
The article states:
Now, with the jailing of former Superintendent Jesus Gandara late last month, all 18 have been convicted. But only 22 of the initial 250 charges stuck…
Defense attorneys say the case was over-charged from the start and involved violations that should have been handled with civil fines from the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission.
The article quotes Marc’s comment to the press,
“I don’t believe the conduct was as egregious as portrayed to be in the charging documents,” said Marc Carlos, attorney for ousted Sweetwater board member Pearl Quiñones. “Nobody’s pockets were lined with cash.”
